A fund that commissions cutting edge news reports from production companies and freelances will prove its worth at an awards ceremony next week.
Five of the nine finalists for the Rory Peck Awards were supported by Channel 4 News’ Independent Fund.
Broadcast on the flagship news programme, their subjects include the war in Iraq and the Darfur crisis.
Fiona Campbell, the fund’s new commissioning editor, told Press Gazette: “The Channel 4 News Independent Fund is unique in British broadcasting. It allows the complete breadth of British and international film making talent to contribute to and generate prime time news on Channel 4.
“As the new commissioning editor of the fund with a strong background in domestic investigative journalism, I am keen this coming year to continue to build on the success of our foreign independent productions.
“I am also focusing on producing original and revelatory domestic films.
As ever we are looking for the production talent of the future both on and off screen. We’re keen to get them working on next year’s award winners.”
The Rory Peck Trust aims to promote the safety and security of freelances around the world, and to help the dependants of those who are killed or seriously injured in the course of their work.
The ceremony takes place at the National Film Theatre, London, on Wednesday evening.
