Press freedom group Reporters Without Borders has welcomed a Paris court’s decision to dismiss a legal action against the organisation by a former Turkish army chief.
General HŸseyin Kivrikoglu sued after his photograph appeared along with 37 other “predators of press freedom” on a giant floor map in the main hall of the St Lazare railway station in Paris, to mark World Press Freedom Day, on 3 May, 2002.
Kivrikoglu, who claimed the photo of him was used without his consent, was ordered to pay E2,000 in damages as well as the costs of the action.
