Nigel Baker, London-based director of content of television news agency APTN, has been appointed its managing director, writes Wale Azeez.
As a key member of the AP International senior management team, Baker will assume overall responsibility for the agency.
The promotion comes two months after the agency’s US parent Associated Press, was restructured, bringing all non-US television broadcast, text and photographic operations under a new umbrella division called AP International.
In his new role, Baker will report to Ian Ritchie, former APTN chief executive and now vice-president of global business for AP International.
Baker joined Associated Press in 1994 as associate editor from Sky News, where he was senior evening editor, to help plan the agency’s launch into TV news.
His key focus will be on providing its news service beyond television, to include online and mobile phones.
Baker said: “We shall be the world leader in providing real-time coverage and defining video news images.”
