Leek is a hotbed of media activity this week as another former Post & Times editor launches a monthly magazine.
David Cliffe edited the Post & Times twice, in the early Eighties and again in the early Nineties, and for the past 10 years has run his own PR and design agency.
On Saturday, the first edition of Local Life in the Moorlands goes on sale. The initial print run is 4,000 and the mainly lifestyle-orientated magazine will be priced at £2.
Cliffe, who is producing the magazine with the help of freelances, said: “The new magazine has a mix of people, lifestyle, arts and nostalgia features. The concept of a truly local, quality magazine has created a lot of interest amongst potential advertisers, readers and contributors.”
“We are trying to create and exploit a new niche and are offering something completely different to local newspapers.”
The new titles bring the number of publications catering for Leek’s 19,000 population to five. There is a free biweekly newspaper called the Moorlands Trader and a free listings magazine called Eyes On.
