Alexander Walker, the Evening Standard’s film critic has died

By Press Gazette

Alexander Walker, the Evening Standard’s film critic since 1960, has died aged 73. Walker became a feature writer on the Birmingham Gazette and then the Birmingham Post, and began film reviewing on the paper in 1953. He wrote brutally critical reviews and once so enraged Ken Russell that the director hit him on the head with a copy of the Standard live on TV. He was named critic of the year three times at the British Press Awards. Full obituary next week.
