Press cuttings agencies have been granted the right to deliver cuttings by e-mail, fax or through a password-protected web service.
An agreement was reached between the Copyright Licensing Agency and the United Kingdom Media Monitoring Association (UKMMA), the recently formed trade body representing many of the UK’s cuttings agencies.
Agencies can now scan paper publications and create cuttings, which can then be distributed digitally.
UKMMA chairman Stephen White, said he was “delighted” that the licence for press cuttings agencies was now in place. “Media monitoring has changed significantly over the past three years as technology allows the digital capture and distribution of print articles,” he added. “Our clients now expect us to offer a fast and accurate service delivered in the way that suits them best. However, UKMMA has long believed that these developments can only happen within a sensibly managed copyright regime. We believe this now exists.”
