The Journalists’ Charity’s new care home at Dorking is to be opened in September.
The state-of-the-art complex, which cost £4m, replaces Sandy Cross, and is called Pickering House, named after Sir Edward Pickering.
Support for the project has come from major newspaper groups News International, Associated Newspapers and the Harmsworth Trust and Telegraph Newspapers. Tindle Newspapers has sponsored the bar for £25,000.
Chairman Robert Warren said: “We are immensely proud of the new home. We spend £250,000 a year helping journalists and dependents who fall on hard times – and there are many of them.”
