Oxfordshire Coroners Court has told
Press Gazette that a provisional date has
been set for the inquiry into the death of
ITN correspondent Terry Lloyd.
The announcement comes more than
three years after Lloyd (pictured) was
shot dead in Iraq while covering the war.
Oxford coroner Nicholas Gardner
said: “We are looking at the first week of
October. There aren’t any more details at
present, as we are checking on the availability
of witnesses at the moment.”
Lloyd was ITN’s longest-serving
reporter and the first to be killed on
assignment.
It is believed that Lloyd was reporting
independently from the military when
he was caught in crossfire outside Basra.
According to an ITN investigation,
he was killed after the ambulance taking
him to hospital came under fire from a
US helicopter gunship.
ITN’s Fred Nerac
and Hussein Osman were also killed.
The coroner’s announcement comes
after months of campaigning in which
the NUJ has pressed the Ministry of
Defence for a thorough investigation.
