Financial Times Lombard column editor Dan Roberts has been named as The Sunday Telegraph’s third City editor in less than a year. Roberts, 33, replaces George Trefgarne, who is departing to “pursue other interests”.
Trefgarne himself was appointed in October by previous Sunday Telegraph editor Sarah Sands and replaced Robert Peston, who left the paper to become business editor of the BBC.
Sunday Telegraph editor Patience Wheatcroft was formerly business editor of The Times and began her new job in April. She said: “Dan is a great acquisition for us. He is a brilliant, award-winning journalist and undoubtedly one of the stars of his generation.” Roberts has worked for the FT since 2000, holding jobs including telecom correspondent,
industrial editor and US business editor. He started his career at the Yorkshire Evening Press as a graduate trainee and moved to the Birmingham Post as City correspondent in 1996. From 1998 to 2000 he was a City reporter and business correspondent at The Daily Telegraph.
