£17b professional media sector ‘lively’

By Press Gazette

By Alyson Fixter Britain’s business-to-business magazines and
spin-offs will be worth £17 billion by the end of this year, according
to a new report – Professional Media Connecting Business – commissioned
by the publishing industry.

The sector, currently being actively
promoted by the PPA as “professional media”, has grown by almost half
(47 per cent) in the past five years, according to the study, supported
by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The report was launched last week by Sir David Arculus, president-elect of the Confederation of British Industry.

Keith
Jones, chief executive of Reed Business Information UK, said: “The UK’s
business information and professional media industry is a lively and
growing sector of the economy.

“While competition is robust, with
new players entering the market seeking niches and bringing with them
new online products, established companies are thriving on new
marketplace challenges.”
