The Sun is due to go to court this week in a bid to silence its star columnist Richard Littlejohn.
Littlejohn is currently in dispute with the paper over his exit terms after being signed up by the Daily Mail in May.
Britain’s reputedly best-paid columnist is on contract with News International until February.
But Associated Newspapers has said it expected Littlejohn to be joining the Mail some time this year.
In
recent weeks Littlejohn’s twiceweekly column has not appeared in
thepaper, with readers being informed that he “is away”. The timing of
The Sun injunction, due to be heard in the High Court on Thursday,
suggests his move to the Mail may be imminent.
The Sun injunction
is understood to be aimed at stopping Littlejohn from writing for the
Daily Mail until his News International contract is finished next year.
Associated Newspapers is resisting the injunction and entering a defence.
