Judith Phillips has become the first journalist to receive a
council’s award for the years she has dedicated to her home town of
Llandudno.
The Mayor of Llandudno presented the council’s
armorial bearings to Phillips, who has reported on Llandudno Town
Council for 30 years.
She first joined the Trinity Mirrorowned North Wales Weekly News straight from school in 1961.
Mayor
Janet Finch Saunders said of Phillips: “She has always been fair and
balanced, irrespective of political parties concerned, and has conveyed
passion in her writing.”
Trinity Mirror North Wales weeklies
group editor Alan Davies said Judith is one of the most respected and
trusted journalists in North Wales and richly deserves the recognition.
During
her years as a reporter, Judith has interviewed The Beatles before they
were famous and also broke the story when the body of seven-year-old
Sophie Hook was found on the beach in Llandudno.
A local man was subsequently jailed for life for the abduction and murder of the little girl.
