DVD World is for young men who like horror, fantasy, comedy and obscure films. Originally given away free with Total DVD , the 100-page, full-colour magazine has launched as a stand-alone title. The first issue has features on Heather Graeme, Night of the Living Dead director George Romero and an update on the latest censorship cuts made by the British Board of Film Censors. Editor Richard Marshall says the magazine will cover the cult side of DVDs. Marshall said: “It’s a lads’ magazine as it covers films in an entertaining and funny way . It’s aimed at those who read Bizarre, Front and Ice. There is sexy stuff in the magazine but it’s not a top shelf title.”

EVENTS
The trouble with this country is the Daily Mail
Recently named newspaper of the year at the British Press Awards, the reputation of the Daily Mail is up for debate. Does it deserve admiration for its immaculate production and championing of family values or does it play up to small-minded readers in Middle England? The Guardian’s Polly Toynbee and The Times’ assistant editor Mary Ann Sieghart are for the motion. Spectator political editor Peter Oborne and publicist Max Clifford defend its reputation. The debate is chaired by Richard Lindley, president of the Media Society.

Gibbons Stamp Monthly
Sector: stamps
Publisher: Stanley Gibbons
Frequency: monthly
Price: £2.30
Print run: 20,000
The magazine for philatelists, GSM has undergone its first redesign since 1989. Editor Hugh Jeffries said that gradual alterations have been introduced over the past year. “We’re wary of making radical changes as it’s a hobby followed by people in retirement and they are traditionally minded.” The magazine, which was previously only 40 per cent colour is now predominantly in colour and perfect bound. Readers can send in their stamps for identification and advice in a new column called “Ask GSM” which was introduced following a reader survey. In addition, the masthead has been reduced in size and the pagination has been increased, taking the title up to 140 pages.
