Torrential floods in London hit BBC Newsnight on Tuesday and Breakfast the following day, forcing the BBC2 news programme to decamp from its ground floor home in studio 7 at the BBC Television Centre to studio 11, writes Wale Azeez.
The Breakfast programme on BBC One was forced to move to the News 24 studio. A spokesman said BBC management would decide at 2pm on Wednesday whether Newsnight would return to its studio for the evening’s broadcast.
He insisted the rain had caused “no serious damage”. “We had to lift the floor to dry things out, but what with the dryers and the heat, it’s looking good that we’ll be back in there tonight.”
Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark, who wrote of the flooded studio in her programme preview email, said, “We’ve been hit by a downpour here – and I mean in here, in the Newsnight studio – so we are searching for somewhere to broadcast from tonight. Any ideas?” She introduced Tuesday night’s bulletin by suggesting “the eagle-eyed among the viewers” would have noticed the change in venue.
