Two of Northcliffe Newspapers’ top executives are leaving the company, prompting a management shake-up across the group.
Alan Goode, chief executive of Bristol United Press, and Ken Hayward, managing director of Central Independent Newspapers, are both to retire on 9 April.
Tim Kitchen will take over the role of managing director at Bristol United Press, publisher of the Western Daily Press, Bristol Evening Post and the Observer series, on 1 March. He is currently managing director of the Derby Daily Telegraph.
Kitchen joined Northcliffe as an advertising sales representative on the Leicester Mercury. In 1993 he took on his first managing director role – at the Express and Echo in Exeter. Two years later he moved into his current post at Derby.
Heather Wozniak will take over the role of managing director of Central Independent Newspapers, publisher of the Tamworth Herald on 1 March.
She is currently managing director of Hull Daily Mail Publications.
Phil Inman will replace Wozniak at the Hull Daily Mail. He is currently managing director of Bath Newspapers.
Replacing Inman at Bath is Andrew Calvert, currently acting managing director at Bristol.
Bath Newspapers is being renamed Western Newspapers to reflect an expanded portfolio, which in addition to its current titles will also include the Western Gazette.
Goode joined Northcliffe in 1984 from the Wolverhampton-based Express & Star as editor of the Evening Herald in Plymouth. He moved into general management in 1987.
Since then he has worked in senior management positions in Plymouth, Bodmin and Yeovil. He has been chief executive of Bristol United Press since September 1994 and has helped to turn Bristol into one of Northcliffe’s strongest centres.
Hayward started his newspaper career as “office boy” at the Western Gazette in 1960, rising to general manager in 1994. He was appointed to his current role in 2000.
