Despite having been in existence for only six months, the reformed British Press Photographers’ Association held its first AGM last Friday at The Crown on Clerkenwell Green in London.
The reason for the short year was that at the inaugural meeting it was decided to proceed as far as possible with existing officers from before the organisation’s hiatus before electing new ones.
The new committee comprises: Jeff Moore, chair; Eddie Mulholland, vicechair; Tim Bishop, secretary/treasurer; and Neil Turner, website editor.
Former chair, Suresh Karadia, stepped down from the position and the membership noted that without his efforts and vision the association would not have been restarted.
Moore said: “The membership now stands at 172 – more than double the number of the previous incarnation of the association. Our exhibition and book, Unseen, have been a major success and we are pressing ahead with our next book of members’ work, Assignments, the Retrospective. “The organisation is representative of all types of press photographer, from hard news to sports and from nationals, locals, agencies to independent freelance photographers.”
He added: “The BPPA is going from strength to strength and we invite all press photographers to join as the list of benefits to members is growing all the time.”
