The Wiltshire Times has had a petition presented to Home Secretary David Blunkett by Westbury MP Dr Andrew Murrison as part of its “Justice For Zoe” campaign.
The campaign was launched in April in a bid to get a minimum jail sentence set for soldier Miles Evans, the stepfather who murdered nine-year-old Zoe Evans in 1997.
Wiltshire Times editor Toby Granville said: “We launched the petition on behalf of Zoe’s family who have had an agonising wait trying to get some kind of closure.
“We had a great response from readers, with close to 1,000 signatures despite it happening quite a long time ago, but it was a case that had reached into the heart of the community.”
