A Berkshire weekly celebrated its centenary by producing a 16-page tabloid pull-out to commemorate the event.
The five-edition broadsheet Wokingham Times – a Guardian Media Group newspaper – started out in the basement of a grocer’s shop in the town’s marketplace in 1903, priced one penny.
The supplement included the history of the title, old photographs and stories, goodwill messages from local dignitaries, and an interview conducted by the editorial team with a well-known local historian about the town’s oldest primary school.
There were also competitions, an “open house” at the office, a balloon launch in the town centre, and a proclamation of the event by Wokingham’s town crier.
The souvenir was put together by Times editor Keith Redbourn, with the assistance of reporter Sally Bryant.
