Paper mills resolve dispute

A seven-week lockout by Finnish paper mills was finally called off
this week, ending a dispute that could have led to a serious paper
shortage in the magazine industry.

Paper mill workers and their
employers in Finland, who provide 60 per cent of Europe’s magazine
paper, have now reached a deal over working conditions and use of
non-union subcontractors.

Deliveries of quality paper to British
magazines dried up in June, forcing glossy supplements to search
elsewhere for supplies or use cheaper products.
