Former head of news at the Yorkshire Post Richard “Dick” Clark has died at the age of 68.
An obituary published in his former paper said: “He was a tough journalist, who did not suffer fools.”
“To those he liked, he was charming, amusing and always the life and soul of the party.”
“He will be remembered as a true newsman and a superb shot.”
Clark, who died 8 April 2013, began work at the Yorkshire Post as its district chief reporter before becoming head of news. In a later years he was part-time equestrian editor, stepping down from that post seven years ago.
In a news career that spanned five decades, Clark also worked for the Doncaster Evening Post, HL Peet’s Freelance Agency, the Daily Mail, and the Bridlington Free Press.
As a freelance agency journalist he was able to boast the achievement of writing for nationals at the age of 16.
Major stories covered by Clark included Donald Campbell’s death during a world water speed record attempt at Coniston Water in 1967.
Whilst working for the Daily Mail, he also covered the election campaign of Margaret Thatcher, who died on the same day as Clark – the Yorkshire Post notes.
