By Press Gazette

David Blair is returning to the Daily Telegraph as chief foreign correspondent after spending two years at the Financial Times as energy correspondent and news editor on the world desk.

Blair had previously spent ten years at the Telegraph, stepping down as diplomatic editor to join the FT in 2009.

In 2003 Blair found documents in the Iraq foreign ministry which appeared to suggest then MP George Galloway had received payments from the Saddam Hussein regime.

In December 2004, Galloway won a £150,000 libel payout from the Daily Telegraph over the story. Costs for the Telegraph were estimated to be in excess of £1m.
