Express and Echo’s Paul Burton made editor of The Herald in Plymouth

By Press Gazette

Exeter Express and Echo editor Paul Burton has been editor of The Herald in Plymouth. Both titles are published by Local World, while the Express and Echo has been weekly since 2011, The Herald is a daily.

Burton replaces Ian Wood who Local World said left the title yesterday. The former deputy editor of the Manchester Evening News was appointed to the job in May last year.

Burton previously spent five years at the Western Daily Press as head of content and deputy editor.

He said: “Leaving Exeter will be tremendously difficult; the team has been wonderful to work with and have managed to more than double the Echo’s online audience. I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge in Plymouth, The Herald is newspaper with a big reputation and extremely talented team who I know are committed to making The Herald and herald.co.uk the best it can be.”

Jim Parker, editor of the Herald Express in Torquay, will oversee the Express and Echo until a new editor is appointed.
