Golwg launches first Welsh magazine app

Magazine Golwg has launched what it claims to be the first ever app for a Welsh language title.

Ap Golwg is available to download on the iPad, iPhone and iPod and allows users buy a digital version of the weekly title, which includes additional video and sound content.

The digital magazine – which was was developed with the support of the Wales Books Council – can be bought by either a 12-month, 6-month or 3-month subscription package or for £1.49 per copy.

Managing editor Dylan Iorwerth said:

Golwg has constantly tried to innovate and, as more and more people start reading on mobile devices, it’s vital that the Welsh language press gains a foothold in these new media.

This will be a full electronic version of the print magazine, with the option of adding some extra features. There are other benefits too – it will be available to everyone everywhere from the minute it is published.

This will be particularly useful for readers who move around a lot, for people living in areas where newsagents are few and far between and for people living in other parts of the British Isles and in countries acorss he world.

The container app can be downloaded for free from the app store. The project has been led by Owain Schiavone, chief executive of Golwg’s sister website Golwg360.
