35 jobs to go with closure of Johnston’s Peterborough printing press

By andrew

Johnston Press has announced that 35 jobs are to go following its decision to close its printing press in Peterborough.

According to a story in Johnston’s Peterborough Telegraph, which recently converted from a daily to weekly, the decision was made following a ‘review of capacity’across the company.

The report said:

The Telegraph recently converted from a daily to weekly format but the company said the Peterborough press had been operating under capacity before the move.

David Crow, managing director Group Services, was quoted saying:

Our other presses have the capacity to take on work from the Peterborough site and in the current climate it is a sensible business decision to look at consolidating our print operations.

A final decision on the closure is expected at the end of the month.

The company operates four other high-speed presses in the UK at Sheffield, Portsmouth, Sunderland and Carn in Northern Ireland.
