Sunderland succeeds Kane as Observer City editor

By Press Gazette

Daily Mail deputy City editor Ruth Sunderland is to be the Observer's new business editor and is set to start in the autumn.

Sunderland replaces Frank Kane who spent five years in the job and resigned last month to launch new daily business newspaper Arabian Business Standard in Dubai.

Observer editor Roger Alton said: “Ruth is a fantastic business editor and I am sure she will play a vital role in ensuring that the Observer continues to provide the best Sunday business coverage.”

Sunderland said: “I am thrilled to be joining The Observer at such an exciting stage of the paper’s development and to be working with such an excellent team of people.”

Before joining the Daily Mail, Sunderland was business editor of the Mail on Sunday and prior to that chief city correspondent of The Daily Express.

She was previously features editor of Investors Chronicle and also worked
for Which? Magazine.
