This Saturday, St David’s Day, will mark a new era for the Daily Post in Wales with the major relaunch of the newspaper.
Political, cultural and economic changes in Wales over the past five years are behind the relaunch, one of the biggest changes in the Daily Post’s 148-year history, rivalled only by its switch to tabloid in the early Eighties.
Editor Alastair Machray, who is now also editor-in-chief, North Wales, said: “This is an enormously important and challenging period for the Daily Post in Wales. The new Daily Post will be more modern, more stimulating, more opinionated and more fun. Critically, it will be of far more relevance and interest to the Welsh communities we are privileged to serve.”
The Trinity Mirror paper has been redesigned, with its dragon logo given a new look and emphasis and a cleaner, brighter design base introduced throughout.
There are to be new supplements and sections across the week, delivering a bigger six-day package. Mondays will feature a new sports pullout mixing Welsh sport with Premiership action. Tuesdays will focus on the people of North and Mid Wales with PeoplePost, a pullout written by and for readers. Monthly supplement Farm and Country goes weekly on Wednesdays, focusing on rural news and farming issues. There will be an appointments section to complement the Thursday jobs section. Friday’s arts coverage is revamped with a new 12-page entertainments guide and what’s on listings.
Saturday will see a revamp of the Day6 magazine. It will be tuned to the Welsh marketplace and include a 20-page TV section and homes guide.
