Northcliffe to reward the power of pictures

By Press Gazette

Northcliffe Newspapers has launched a competition to celebrate the best photographic talent in its stable of 110 daily and weekly titles.

The top three photographers in each competition category will receive a new SLR camera and the overall winner will get a pair of club class tickets to San Francisco.

The competition theme is “every day” and categories include seminal moments, community and daily routines.

The winners will be announced at a private view at Vinopolis in London on 24 March attended by Media Secretary Tessa Jowell.

The chairman of the judging panel is Simon Bainbridge, editor of the British Journal of Photography.

He said: “These photographs are at the cutting edge of photography today. For too long, there has been an unfair perception that regional newspaper photographers only take pictures of cub scouts doing the thumbs up.

“That is changing, with editors using images creatively and optimising the power of photography.”
