The Hebridean, the Scottish weekly newspaper that folded two weeks ago, has been bought by the rival Stornoway Gazette.
After nine months in head-to-head competition with the Gazette, The Hebridean ceased publication after failing to reach revenue targets.
Angus Morrison, managing director of the Stornoway Gazette, said his paper had successfully completed a deal with Isles Media to acquire the title and the publication rights to The Hebridean. The Gazette is owned by Scottish Radio Holdings.
Hebridean editor Iain Maciver and writer/photographer Eric Mackinnon have been made redundant.
Maciver, who will return to freelancing, has secured a part-time public relations post at the Western Isles Health Board.
Murdo Maclennan, a director of The Hebridean said: “Failing to achieve projected targets was a crucial issue.
It was a corporate decision. We have limited resources. But given its short history, we are extremely proud of The Hebridean.”
