Predictions that television listings magazines would be abandoned in favour of electronic programme guides have been dismissed by current figures which show a stable market, according to Colin Tough, editor of What’s on TV.
Tough, who took over in July, said: “An awful lot of people thought that TV listings would be hit hard by electronic programme guides, but people have returned to print because of the sheer number of channels. They want a written guide.”
Radio Times’s sales stabilised under new editor Gill Hudson and TV Times slowed its decline despite a fall of 9.6 per cent year-on-year.
TV Choice reported a rise of 15.3 per cent thanks to a drop in cover price, but the move is believed to have had a knock-on effect on TV Quick, also owned by Bauer, which fell 13.6 per cent.
Overall, the market reported sales of 5.4 million.
