The Secret Policeman, the BBC’s undercover documentary into racism in the police force, filmed by Mark Daly, has won its third award this year. It took the best television documentary prize at the ethnic multicultural media awards (EMMAs) on Monday night.
Also at the ceremony, held at London’s Grosvenor Hotel, former BBC director-general Greg Dyke was named media personality of the year – a reward for his endeavours to make the broadcaster less “hideously white” before his premature resignation following the Hutton report.
Sky News anchor Lisa Aziz won the best news journalist award while Vanessa Feltz was named best radio news journalist for her slot on BBC Radio London. Independent newspaper columnist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown was named best print journalist.
Sue Turton, Channel 4 News sports correspondent, was named sports news reporter of the year at the RTS Sports Awards on the same night.
