Veteran Derbyshire Times photographer Bernard Jones is retiring from the paper he joined after leaving school aged just 15.
Jones leaves the paper on Friday after 48 years, admitting that he will ‘miss the day-to-day banter and getting out and meeting different people”.
He joined the paper as a technician working in the paper’s dark room and became a photographer about 20 years ago.
The 63-year-old was quoted in the paper saying: ‘It’s been a remarkable journey,’adding: ‘I feel very privileged to have covered so many remarkable events.”

The weekly paper is owned by Johnston Press. Its chief executive Ashley Highfield said: ‘It’s the end of an era for the Derbyshire Times, and Johnston Press, as one of our longest serving employees leaves us.
‘While there have been many profound changes in photographic and print technology in that time, Bernard’s long career and amazing portfolio shows us that at the end of the day, it’s still all down to being at the heart of the community at the right time and that there’s no shortcut for experience and having the eye to capture the shot, which he clearly has.
