MacLennan: 10 years at Associated
The Barclay Brothers have made their first major change since winning the race to buy the Telegraph titles by appointing Daily Mail boss Murdoch MacLennan as chief executive.
He replaces Jeremy Deedes, who came out of retirement to steer Telegraph Group through the lengthy bidding process, which ended last month with the Barclays paying £665m for the titles.
MacLellan has been replaced as managing director of Associated Newspapers by Kevin Beatty, currently in charge of Daily Mail and General Trust’s regional newspapers division, Northcliffe.
MacLennan began his career with Thomson Regional Newspapers as a graduate trainee at The Scotsman, and has moved up the management ladder through the production route. He has been managing director of Associated Newspapers for 10 years.
Beatty began his career in the circulation department of the Belfast Telegraph and moved up through the commercial side of newspapers.
He is being succeeded at Northcliffe by his deputy, Michael Pelosi.
