Statue bid

By Press Gazette

The Sunderland Echo is leading an appeal to build a statue in memory of FA Cup-winning manager Bob Stokoe, who died last month.

The Echo is joining with fans, businesses and former players to raise the £73,000 needed to pay for the statue of Stokoe, pictured left, who guided Sunderland FC to cup glory in 1973. The statue will be erected at the Stadium of Light ground. Echo editor Rob Lawson said: “Bob Stokoe may be gone, but he will never be forgotten by the people of Sunderland and football fans across the world.”
