Jamie Angus leaves BBC after 23 years

Angus is currently BBC senior controller of output and commissioning.

Jamie Angus, currently BBC senior controller of output and commissioning and formerly BBC World Service Group director, has decided to leave the corporation after 23 years.

In his current role, Angus is responsible for the BBC’s daily news programming in English across TV and radio, including on BBC World News and World Service English. He also oversaw the creation of its commissioning unit as part of the BBC News modernisation programme and chaired the BBC-led Trusted News Initiative to combat fake news with other cross-industry partners.

He took on his current role in a restructure of the BBC News board last year. As World Service director in 2020/21 he had a salary of between £200,000 and £204,999, according to last year’s BBC annual report.

Jonathan Munro, interim director of BBC News, told staff in a memo on Wednesday: “When he finishes in a few weeks from now he’ll leave us with an enormous legacy, and he has my personal gratitude for his support to me over the last few years. I have relied heavily on his wisdom, experience and judgement.”

Angus, who joined the BBC in 1999 as a researcher on Radio 4’s Today programme, rose to edit Today, The World At One, Newshour, and Newsnight before leading the World Service and expanding its language services.
