113-year-old The Railway Magazine and Hi-Fi News are the latest magazines to be sold by IPC in its disposal of smaller and niche titles.
The Railway Magazine is a monthly title covering all aspects of the rail industry. It has been a resilient circulation performer in recent years, slightly growing its sale over the last decade to the current total of 34,715.
It has been bought by Lincolnshire-based Mortons Media Group – which publishes magazines such as Rail Express, Scootering, Heritage Railway and Towpath.
Mortons managing director Brian Hill said: ‘We are proud to welcome such an historic and authoritative title as The Railway Magazine into the Mortons family. We look forward to working with [editor] Nick Pigott and his editorial team to further develop its position as the market leading title in the railway sector.”
Hi-Fi News has been sold to MyHobbyStore. Launched in 1956 in now sells just under 10,000 copies a month, compared with around 18,000 a decade a go.
MyHobbyStore publishes titles such as Model Engineer, Model Boats and Good Woodworking. Earlier this month it acquired Model Collector and Stamp Magazine from IPC Media.
MyHobbyStore CEO Owen Davies said: ‘Hi-Fi News is an outstanding magazine written for enthusiasts by enthusiasts. We are delighted to welcome the highly dedicated and experienced team to join our growing number of specialist titles.”
All staff have transferred over to the new companies with immediate effect.
