It’s not every day your team wins the FA Cup final, so The News, Portsmouth made the most of it when Portsmouth FC took home the cup last week with online and print coverage.
On cup final day last Saturday, the Johnston Press paper printed a wrap-around front [paheadlined ‘Pompey expects”, with the heads of the team’s players imposed on to William Overend’s famous painting of The Hero of Trafalgar by design editor Graeme Windell, with manager Harry Redknapp playing the role of Nelson.
Throughout match day digital editor Matthew Brown constantly updated the paper’s website Portsmouth.co.uk with pictures and video from Wembley and Portsmouth. The online coverage continued through Sunday with the team’s open top bus victory parade.
By early Saturday evening a special edition of the paper’s sports supplement Sports Mail hit the streets with match reports and pictures – and Monday’s edition of The News contained 40 pages of reaction and pictures.
