The Strathspey & Badenoch Herald marked its centenary on 30 May with a 16-page tabloid supplement to celebrate the founding of the paper by Boer War veteran Alexander Tulloch.
Scotland’s new first minister Alex Salmond was quick to send a message of congratulations to the paper for its success over the years.
Salmond said: ‘One reason why local papers, and this includes the Strathy, are trusted is that they do not have a political axe to grind or party to support.
‘The Strathy and its journalists have won many prizes and awards within the Highlands and Islands. That is a tribute to their success.
‘May I therefore congratulate all connected with the newspaper on reaching your centenary and wish you another century of success for Badenoch and Strathspey.”
The centenary issue exclusively revealed that the Nationalists would be holding their first party conference since becoming Scotland’s governing party, in Aviemore in the autumn.
