NUJ members at the South London Press have accepted a new three per cent pay deal from the paper’s management after the addition of a change to pay bands.
The NUJ originally withdrew from talks with management in April when the original three per cent was not increased, but is now happier with the new deal which includes an extra day’s holiday after five years and an increased meal allowance, simultaneous with the rebanding process offering a more transparent wage structure.
NUJ father of chapel Toby Porter said: ‘At the moment, a lot of people doing the same job are on scattered wages. The new banding is much more promising for members. But we will have to see how the figures for each of them stack up. We don’t know that yet.”
The twice-weekly paper was sold by Trinity Mirror to Tindle Newspapers in August after it paid £18.75m for 27 titles.
