Johnston Press delays pay reviews until 2013

By Press Gazette

Johnston Press has told staff they will have to wait six months longer than expected for a pay review – meaning none will be carried out now until the new year.

Instead, the company told staff in an email that it would be offering them an extra day of holiday in recognition of the “commitment and hard work” that has gone into relaunching local titles.

The email reads: “A decision has been taken to defer 2012 salary reviews by six months. This means that July reviews will be deferred to January and so on through the next 12 months which will effectively return review dates to their original position before the change in 2009.

“In recognition of the commitment and hard work which has gone, and will go, into the relaunch and other initiatives, an additional day’s annual leave will be added to the 2012 entitlement and subsequent years for all JP employees in the UK, Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland.”

Johnston Press announced in April that it was switching five daily newspapers – in Scarborough, Halifax, Northampton, Peterborough and Kettering – into weeklies and relaunching all 170 of its other paid-for titles.
