Johnston Press has appointed new editors to take charge of the Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post following Jeremy Clifford’s move to become editor-in-chief of the regional publisher.
There has been one editor of the two newspapers since a merger in 2012. But, from next month, James Mitchinson (pictured) will take charge of the Yorkshire Post and Nicola Furbisher of the evening newspaper.
Mitchinson, who is currently editor of Johnston Press’s Sheffield Star, “will focus on the delivery of the publisher’s audience strategy and ensure alignment between editorial and commercial”, the publisher said in a press release.
Furbisher takes on the recreated Evening Post role having previously been managing editor of the Yorkshire Post. Johnston Press said she will “work closely with Mitchinson across both titles”.
Clifford was made editor of both newspapers in 2013, having himself moved from the Sheffield Star. He said: “James has really shown what he’s capable of in the two years he was editor at The Star. His drive and vision, coupled with a track record of delivering the results we need, have made him the right choice to lead The Yorkshire Post team.”
Mitchinson said "I very much look forward to leading the development of The Yorkshire Post and its associated tiles. I'm now eager to meet my new teams across Yorkshire so that we can get cracking.”
