East London Advertiser is merged with free weekly

By Press Gazette

Archant is merging its Tower Hamlets weeklies The Dockland and the East London Advertiser.

The merger of the paid-for Advertsier and free Docklands will not result in any job losses, according to Archant, and the new Docklands & East London Advertiser will be distributed on a part paid-for and part-free model.

Archant said that pagination of the new paper, which will be published for the first time on 10 November, will be higher than that of either of the titles it replaces.

‘The new Docklands & East London Advertiser will build on the tradition of the Advertiser and the innovation of The Docklands to provide an insightful read for the residents of Tower Hamlets,’said Archant London editorial director Bob Crawley.

‘From an employment and shopping destination perspective Canary Wharf has become a key part of the everyday life for Tower Hamlets’ residents.

‘Research conducted by the Canary Wharf group shows the estate is now the largest centre of employment for local residents as well as having close to 1m visitors a week to the shopping centre. This indicates one title serving the borough is the most effective way to serve the community.”

The last time the East London Advertiser was ABC-audited, in the second half of 2010, it had a weekly sale of 6,917.
