Birmingham Post business editor Alun Thorne has been appointed as the title’s new editor.
Trinity Mirror Midlands, owner of the now weekly Post newspaper, confirmed today that Thorne would succeed current editor Marc Reeves when he leaves at the end of the year.
John Griffith, managing director of Trinity Mirror’s Midlands’ BPM Media division, said: “Alun has played a key role in the multimedia development of the title since he returned to the business and done so with great energy, enthusiasm and skill.
“I look forward to him bringing those same qualities to the editor role, and I know he can count on the support and goodwill of everyone in the business.”
Thorne will formally take over on January 1st and will report to David Brookes, the new editor of sister title, the Birmingham Mail, and editor-in-chief of all Trinity’s Birmingham titles.
Brookes takes up his new role as Steve Dyson, current editor of the Birmingham Mail and Sunday Mercury, is joining Reeves as he steps down later this month.
Both their departures were announced in October as part of a massive shake-up of Trinity Mirror’s Midlands businesses that saw the Post go weekly and 82 staff made redundant.
