Steve Auckland has returned to his old job as managing director of Metro.
He left Metro in March 2011 to head up Northcliffe (which was then also part of the Daily Mail and General Trust Group).
Auckland was made chief executive of Local World at the end of last year – the company made out of the merger of the Northcliffe and Iliffe newspaper groups. He stepped down from that job last month.
Here is the statement from Metro in full:
Steve Auckland has been appointed Managing Director of Metro and will join the business on 10 December.
Steve has been part of dmg media for many years and led Metro as Managing Director from February 2002 to March 2011 before being appointed Managing Director of Northcliffe Media and, latterly, CEO of Local World.
Commenting on Auckland’s appointment, Kevin Beatty, CEO, dmg media, said: “Steve is well placed to build on the excellent progress made by Metro over the past few years, and I very much welcome him back to our team.”
Auckland said: “I am delighted to be back with Metro. I know the strengths of the team and I am looking forward to developing the print product further as well as continuing to build on the brand’s excellent digital platforms, especially Metro’s popular mobile app.”
