The Sun splashes out on 30p cover price ad campaign

By Press Gazette

The Sun is spending £1.25m on a campaign launched today emphasising the paper’s value for money in a bid to boost sales after its coverprice moved to 30p across the country.

Under the headline ‘All for just 30p”, the posters show a till receipt showing all the paper’s sections and attributes. Some 10,000 will be shown across the country in the next two weeks, followed by a TV campaign in mid-October.

In August the paper dropped its nationwide coverprice from 35p to 30p, after selling for 30p in London, the south-east and Scotland for months. The move made it the cheapest national newspapers and it remains the best-selling with an average sale of 3.12m for July.

Roland Agambar, sales and marketing director of News Group Newspapers, said: ‘All for just 30p reminds people of the unrivalled value for money The Sun offers whilst delivering a vast array of award-winning content everyday.”

The move follows price rises across the national quality press in recent weeks which have included the Independent rising to £1.

Daily newspaper cover prices, how they stand:

  • FT – £1.50
  • The Independent – £1
  • The Daily Telegraph – 90p
  • The Guardian – 80p
  • The Times – 80p
  • Daily Mail – 50p
  • Daily Express – 40p
  • Daily Mirror – 40p
  • Daily Star – 35p
  • The Sun – 30p
