Former editor of the Dail Record Terry Quinn has announced his retirement in Australia aged 58 after a 37-year-career in journalism.
Quinn has quit as editor-in-chief of APN News and Media in Australia, where he has worked since 2005. In 2006 he was one of forty journalists named in the Press Gazette Regional Newspapers Hall of Fame.
He said: ‘I’ve never had more than 3 weeks off in my entire working life. So I’m relishing the idea of endless free time to do whatever I want.”
He was editor of the Daily Record from 19941998 and has previously been editor of the Edinburgh Evening News and the Telegraph & Argus in Bradford. He had also been editorial director of Thomson Regional Newspapers in London.
In 1998 he moved to the US to become senior vice president of Thomson’s US newspaper operations which had 60 daily papers.He has also been publisher of the New Zealand national paper The Sunday Star Times.
Quinn said he plans to continue living in Queensland: “I’ve been extraordinarily lucky to have lived and worked in so many great countries. The newspaper business has been a wonderful, exciting hobby, er, career.”
