The Sunday Times was the big winner at the inaugural Online Media Awards last night picking up six prizes.
The paywalled site, which was launched just over a year ago, won the Grand Prix and was also named best site for campaigning journalism, best site for video, best designed site and best site for photography. Sunday Times website editor Gordon Thomson was named online editor of the year.
Press Gazette picked up a special award from chairman of judges Noel Young along with the Nursing Times. He said they were both websites which proved: 'You don't have to be big to be the best."
Press Gazette editor Dominic Ponsford also received a judges' commendation in the category of online editor of the year.
BBC.co.uk was named best site for news-led journalism.
