Jonathan Ford is rejoining the Financial Times as chief lead writer after leaving news agency Reuters.
Ford had been commentary editor at Reuters for little over a year when he left at the end of 2009 after it bought Breakingviews.com, the financial opinion website he helped launch.
Ford set up Breakingviews.com in 2000 with another FT journalist, Hugo Dixon, who was appointed head of Reuters’ Breakingviews service following their takeover in October.
Ford’s return to the FT – where he worked on the Lex column in the 1990s – comes amidst other changes at the title.
David Gardner, previously chief leader writer, will become the FT’s international affairs editor in London.
He will replace Quentin Peel, who moves to the newly created post of chief Berlin correspondent.
Gerrit Wiesmann will move from Frankfurt to Berlin to join Peel as Berlin correspondent.
Ford, who was an investment banker before starting his journalistic career, will be responsible for writing and commissioning the editorials and leading a team of four writers.
