Four sports stars become latest celebrities to be named in US while English papers have hands tied by injunction

By Freddy Mayhew

Four sports stars who have taken out injunctions in the English courts are the latest to be named by an American publications, despite newspapers in England being unable to report on any of them.

Among those revealed by a US publication are a Premier League footballer and manager who are fighting to keep their alleged infidelities out of the media.

The article comes a week after an injunction banning press from reporting on a threesome involving a celebrity was upheld in England’s Supreme Court despite the well-known star being named in the US and on social media, prompting a legal challenge by The Sun on Sunday newspaper.

Readers with a UK IP address won’t be able to access the latest story because they are automatically redirected to a UK version of the site. The story will not be printed in UK versions of the publication.

According to the Telegraph, the football manager named in this latest story also gagged a national newspaper from naming them in 2006 over sex text claims while a second sports star also won two injunction battles with The Sun in 2008 that successfully stopped details of his private life being printed.

Another sports star named on the US is alleged to have had an affair with a female celebrity despite having a fiancée.

The media is currently challenging the case of a leading British actor who has taken out an injunction to prevent the media reporting on his alleged affair with a prostitute.
