Another signing for The Times, as it recruits Press Association’s chief sports reporter Martyn Ziegler

By William Turvill

The Times has taken on Press Association's chief sports reporter, Martyn Ziegler.

Taking up a similar role at The Times, Ziegler will cover sports politics and investigate for the newspaper.

He starts on 22 February ahead of the Fifa presidential election on 26 February.

Ziegler has worked for PA since 1996 and has been chief sports reporter since 2000.

He started his career on the Hull Daily Mail in 1991, rising to become news editor before joining PA.

He told Press Gazette: "I can't imagine a more exciting job than the one The Times has employed me to do, and I can't wait to get started."

Last year, The Times's most high-profile signing was Henry Winter, who joined from the Telegraph.

The newspaper also appointed a new sports editor, Alex Kay-Jelski, who held the same position at the Daily Mail.

The Times also took on Telegraph deputy sports editor Joe Hare.

Football editor Tony Evans, meanwhile, left the newspaper.
