Daily Mail sports editor Alex Kay-Jelski moves to same role on The Times

By William Turvill

The sports editor of the Daily Mail is leaving for The Times less than a year after taking up his post.

Alex Kay-Jelski, 31, a former Daily Mail graduate trainee, was named sports editor of the title in January this year, reporting to head of sport Lee Clayton.

Kay-Jelski, who joined the Mail in 2007, will take up the same position at The Times. He replaces Tim Hallissey who has moved to become The Times’s head of sport.

Also joining The Times’s sports operation this month is former Daily Telegraph sports writer Henry Winter. His move, after 20 years at the Telegraph, was first reported by Press Gazette in March. He announced he had been put on gardening leave in August ahead of his start this month.

The Times has also recently taken on the Telegraph’s Joe Hare as deputy sports editor.

Meanwhile, football editor Tony Evans has left the newspaper.
